In rock climbing, your gear is your life and I am not talking about pants being too tight or patched at the knees... climbing harness, rope, carabiners and everything else provide protection in case of fall and may avoid serious injuries.
This is not rhetorical: climbing is a dangerous activity and safety is essential. Gear has to be suitable for the kind of climb you will do and it must to be used as recommended by the manufacturer.
Climbing gear is always provided with a user's guide and must be marked with "UIAA" or "CE" marks.
TIP: Your climbing partner (more details in the "courses" section) is as crucial as your gear: climbing partners must know each other very well, both as concerns technical and physical abilities and as concerns mutual understanding. Of course, this is more important in case of long and hard routes. Crags, and particularly one-pitch routes, allow you to better know and evaluate your partner.
And last, but not least, don't be afraid to admit you are tired and unsure whether to continue climbing: mountains don't go away...
In this section you can find gear description (see menu on the left): features, use and maintenance.
