Climbing in Piedmont:
the Stura Valley
The Stura Valley is a very long valley running from Borgo S.Dalmazzo to Maddalena Pass and France, along the Stura river.
It lies between the Maira valley (North) and Gesso valley (South) and marks the border between Maritime Alps and Cottian Alps.
The main side valleys are: Vallone di Sant'Anna (on the left side after Vinadio) leading to Maddalena Col and S.Bernolfo valley (left fork at Pianche - Bagni di Vinadio spa).
You can reach the Stura Valley from Borgo S.Dalmazzo by the route SS21 ("della Maddalena"). The road passes through the villages of Demonte, Aisone, Vinadio, Pianche, Sambuco, Pietraporzio, Bersezio, Argentera (ski area) to reach the Colle della Maddalena.
