MONT AVIC NATURAL PARK

Updated November 2001

INFO: Mont Avic Natural Park was set up in October 1989 to preserve the natural resources of the upper central valley of the Chalamy stream (district of Champdepraz).
The park environment has only partly been affected by human activities and the whole area is characterized by some extremely interesting aspects. Aside from offering hikes within everyone’s reach, it is the largest mountain forest in the Aosta valley. Over a third of its surface is covered in forests of mountain pines, scotch pines, larches and beech trees and lots of small lakes and a very diverse wildlife complete this stunning environment. Signs along the trails highlight the boundaries of the protected area and the excursion paths, while also providing special information about the wildlife and human activities carried out in the past. Among the sites to be seen, the green area of the Tourist Centre, with its plastic model of the park and its surroundings, is well worth a visit.
As any other natural park, Mont Avic has regulations aiming to protect the natural environment, based on simple common sense and respect for nature!

All paths in the park are easily travelable from June to late October (by mountain bike as well). From November to May, trails are mostly covered with snow, thus specific gear is required. There are mountaineering trails too, with unstable rocks in some spots, whose difficulty ranges from II to III.
