ROCCA SBARUA
Most of the biggest climbers from Turin (i.e. Boccalatte, Gervasutti, Ellena, Mellano, Rossa, Rivero, Motti, Grassi) first climbed the Rocca Sbarua's towers.
The rock is made up of excellent granite gneiss, allowing different kinds of climb (cracks, corners, slabs, roofs,...) and difficult over IV..
Trad climbs are also available and new routes can be yet first climbed.
APPROACH: From Pinerolo (Torino) take S.Pietro Val Lemina street to reach the village with the same name (about 3 km far from Pinerolo) and continue passing Talucco to reach Case Dairin where parking.
Walk through a small village and meadows reaching a grassy saddle (from here you can see Rocca Sbarua); enter the woods following the trail down and left and reach the former Refuge Melano (now "Casa Canada" - "Canada home"), near the base of the routes (30-40 minutes from the car park).
You can climb all year long here except after snowing (altitude: 1100 m.)
