ROCCA PROVENZALE: SOUTHERN RIDGE
The Southern Ridge is the easiest climb to the summit. It is usually used by the climbers as a descent route. WARNING: THE VERY LICHENED ROCK IS VERY SLIPPERY WHEN WET.
Difficulty: F+
Elevation: 750 m - 2,5 - 3 hours (scrambling)
Gear : Even if the route is an easy climb, rope, slings, 3-4 'biners and harness might be helpful. Some climbing experience and care are required, first of all when descending.

Approach and Trail : From Chiappera, turn right ignoring the left fork to the refuge Campo Base. Park on the right side of the road, after two sharp bends, where the trail starts (red and white signs).
Climb the steep path between rocks and bushes, reaching grassy and less steep slopes where the trail heads left to the Rocca.
After some switchbacks the path becomes steeper and finally reaches the rock. Following the red signs on a zigzag path reach a grassy plateau named Prato Stella.
Hike the ramp heading East and, after a long traverse towards right, turn left on sloping slabs (a few I and II moves). Continue up to the top: the ridge becomes easier and larger (series of blocks). Traverse right on easy slab and grassy ledges and then left up steep rocks, rich in holds (II move, 1 peg).
Continue on the ridge and pass a hollow aiming a notch. With an easy climb reach the summit.
