CLIMBING IN PIEMONTE:
THE CASTELLO PROVENZALE GROUP

GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION. The Castello Provenzale Group stands out in the wide Vallone del Maurin, among grassy slopes above Chiappera (Southern Cottian Alps, Maira Valley)
The group is composed of four main peaks. Climbing routes are grouped by summit. From South to North: the Rocca Provenzale (in the picture below, the Southern Ridge), the Punta Figari, the Torre Castello and the Rocca Castello.

APPROACH. From Cuneo follow signs for Caraglio (or from Mondovì, pass through Borgo S.Dalmazzo towards Caraglio). Reach Dronero and follow the main route to Acceglio for many kilometers. Continue passing Chiappera up to the camping "Campo Base"
(Tel.: +39 334 8416041 - web: campobaseacceglio.it). Just before the camping take the right fork leading to the base of the rock. After few sharp bends, park your car in a wide stretch on the right side of the road (under the trees). Follow the path starting here (signs for Colle Greguri).
To reach the sectors of Rocca Castello and Torre Castello, you can also drive up to the end of the dirt road. Park your car near the rural houses at 2000 m. (Gr. Collet). Take the trail T14 leading to Colle Greguri.
