HIKING

Hiking is a form of walking, undertaken with the specific purpose of exploring and enjoying the scenery. It usually takes place on easy trails by which you can reach refuges, little chapels, lakes or summits.
It is possible to enjoy outdoors walking in beautiful rural areas with no special equipment: more or less easy trails allow you to see extraordinary environments and striking views

TRAINING
Hiking requires good physical conditions and some training too, above all in case of long-distance footpaths.
In the description guides or in the signs located at the beginning of a route you can find how long the trip is, expressed in hours of walk or in meters of elevation gain. Hikers usually gain about 350 meters of elevation per hour (of course it depends on the training and physical conditions); the same trail takes about half time walking downhill.
If the elevation gain of the excursion is about 1000 meters (that is to say about 3 hour hike), you clearly need to be trained for walking some hours longer, so that you are not exhausted reaching the summit: you also have to come back.
This is just to outline that it is important to choose a suitable hike for one's technical and physical abilities.

Never mind! The mountains offer you everything: from easy hikes, suitable for beginners or for families, to strenuous trails, that require adequate training and experience. In all guides you can find the hike description, specifying at least the difficulty level
Here you can find the table of difficulty levels.
