ROCK CLIMBING

"Rock Climbing" is the activity of using one's hands or feet to ascend a steep object (rock or ice formations), on climbing crags or in the high mountains. Rock climbing can be thought of as the will to ascend a vertical wall (a few or hundreds of meters high) as "a game" or as an evolution of hiking to reach the summit.

In both cases you need to use all the limbs.
As the path becomes steeper, walking is not enough: because of the conformation of the ground you need at first to use your hands to keep your balance (technical rating: I degree), then you need to move correctly one limb at a time (II degree) and so on when hand holds and steps become smaller and fewer so movements need to be more articulated and arduous up to vertical or overhanging rocks (up to X degree).

Here you can find the most important grading systems.

In this section I give a brief description of climbing gear and describe some climbing routes (boulder, crags or traditional routes). However specific training and experience are absolutely necessary: incorrect use of climbing gear may cause serious or fatal accidents. In the mountains, as on crags, there are various difficult routes to slow but steady improve.
Not least the importance of technical and physical training to avoid injuries.
